Not All Technology Time Is Created Equal
Kids pick up technology so quickly, but as a parent, it’s not always clear how to guide them toward useful digital skills.
With so much focus on limiting screen time, we're missing the real opportunity:
teaching kids how to use technology in ways that benefit them.
This course fills that gap — helping kids see digital tools as something they can understand and use with purpose.
The Opportunity
A child-friendly course for 6–12-year-old kids!
Giving kids access to structured, skill-building projects NOW helps them:
- Recognise and choose productive ways to use devices
- Build understanding through creative, guided projects
- Develop tech skills that support schoolwork, homeschool learning, and future learning
Imagine your child not just playing with technology, but actually learning from it. Becoming tech-savvy while creating fun and colourful projects at home.
Child-friendly online content for home
Giving your kids a head start in the classroom
Using the worlds' most popular design platform
Structured lessons that don't feel like schoolwork
For Parents
You don’t need to be a tech expert to help your child thrive in a digital world. You just need to give them a structured way to learn.
This course does exactly that — without any added pressure for you.
Many parents tell me they wanted to learn Canva themselves but started with this course for their kids. The best part? They end up learning alongside them.
The skills I teach kids are the same ones I teach adults — just delivered in child-friendly content and in a way that keeps young minds engaged.
When kids learn properly, parents relax — because they finally know screen time is working for them, not against them.
For Homeschool Families
Kids Get Creative with Canva fits perfectly into a homeschooling rhythm.
It’s:
-
project-based and self-paced
-
easy to integrate into creative or tech learning plans
-
ideal for independent learners who like hands-on, real-world skills
You can treat it as a digital literacy elective, a creative technology module, or a weekly enrichment activity.
It’s structured enough to count as curriculum — but flexible enough to fit any family’s schedule.
Homeschooling already encourages independence — this course channels that independence into lasting digital capability.
Testimonial from a 'creative' Aunty
I got Kids Get Creative With Canva as a shared, creative activity to do with my 11-year-old nephew. He did well and we worked through a bunch of the lessons. But I wondered if he'd rather be playing Roblox.
Then a few months later he casually said, "Oh yeah, we've been using Canva heaps at school this term. I showed the whole class how to do layers and groups and flip things and change colors."
Wow! I was one proud aunty. And a bit shocked too - I didn't realise he'd learned so much! 😊

10-year-old Kids Get Creative With Canva student
When asked what they think of this course, 'Yeah, we do use Canva at school but they don't show you how to do things like this. This is good.'
Meet Sarah: Your Course Creator
I’m Sarah Lorien, a designer, photographer and educator who’s spent more than 20 years in creative industries and over a decade teaching digital tools — from Adobe software to Canva — to students of all ages.
For more than a decade, I’ve been teaching adults and kids how to work smarter with digital tools – not by memorising steps, but by understanding how things work.
I created Kids Get Creative with Canva because I kept seeing the same thing:
kids embracing technology with enthusiasm and speed, but without real structure or foundational skills.
This course changes that.
It gives them a strong, practical base – so when technology changes (and it always does), they’ll have a head start.
Why Canva?
Canva lets kids explore digital design without expensive software or complicated tools. It’s free, easy to access, and – when they learn how to use it properly – a great way to build tech skills they’ll use far beyond design.
It’s also everywhere. Schools, universities, and workplaces all use Canva, which means the skills kids learn now will stay useful as they grow.
How Do We Access the Course?
You can watch the course on one screen/device and use Canva on another. For desktop or laptop computers, both can be open on the same device. Whatever works best for your setup!
Where to Watch the Course
📌 Kids Get Creative with Canva is hosted on Kajabi, an online learning platform. You can access it on:
- A desktop or laptop
- An iPad or tablet
- A phone (if using a second screen for Canva)
Where to Use Canva
- Best on a desktop, laptop, or tablet
- Available on a phone app (but the layout is different, so I don’t recommend it for learning)
Inside the course, you’ll find step-by-step instructions for signing up and accessing both Kajabi and Canva.
📌 You’ll need an internet connection for both the course and Canva.

Sample lesson:
Pineapples
This is from 'Jump In - Level 1' Module which is where everything begins!
Inside the course, lessons all build on each other, introducing new skills and ways to use Canva.
In this lesson we look at how to rotate elements on a page.
This follows an earlier lesson about moving, flipping, duplicating and resizing elements, which we also use in this project.
In 'Pineapples' we first get to practice the concept of rotating, then in our 'Get Creative' project at the end of the lesson, we use this skill to have some fun!
Inside the course, students download the template used in the video to work along.
Child Safety Online
When we sign up for online platforms or apps, we all agree to their terms and conditions (you know, the ones we usually tick without reading that long, long document…).
But when kids under 13 use these platforms, those agreements apply to them too; under our supervision as parents or guardians.
As the course creator, I’m required to remind you of this.
How This Applies to This Course
📌 Both Canva and Kajabi (the platform this course is on) follow government regulations for child safety and privacy protection.
📌 Their Terms & Conditions require that parents/guardians:
✔ Sign up for accounts using your own email and details
✔ Be responsible for supervising your child’s participation
🔹 Thanks for helping make this a safe space for all kids!
I created Kids Get Creative with Canva for the way kids actually learn. They’re tech-savvy and curious — they just need the chance to use that energy in the right direction.

Build Real Skills
This course helps kids develop useful tech and design skills, giving them a strong foundation for school, creativity, and beyond.
🎉
Creative Learning That Sticks
Step-by-step lessons keep kids engaged, motivated, and actually enjoying the process so they build skills without it feeling like work.
Creative Expression at Home
Some kids say they don’t like creative projects, but often, it’s because they don’t feel confident drawing. With Canva, they can design, experiment, and express themselves without the pressure of making things ‘look right.’
And for kids who love hands-on art, Canva opens up even more possibilities. They can combine physical artwork with digital tools, layering their ideas in new and exciting ways.

For Teachers
Primary school teachers do incredible work, but they can’t be expected to keep up with every digital platform that enters the classroom.
I’ve taught design software for over a decade. That’s why I don’t expect teachers to take this on alone — it’s a specialist skill.
If you’d like to explore bringing Kids Get Creative with Canva into your classroom, please reach out to discuss licensing or group access.
Even if that’s not possible in your school right now, this course will help you understand how kids can learn Canva properly — and give you language to guide them better.
All Ages Creative Academy courses and workshops are not associated with, nor representative of, Canva. I've created all content myself, using over 11 years of teaching Adobe and Canva to students, and seeing the ways I can help you best as you learn.
