It’s a win-win for parents AND kids
Your child asks for screen time. You say yes.
Then you get that familiar feeling, is this okay?
You’re not anti-technology.
You know digital skills matter.
But there’s a massive gap between:
My child can zip around that iPad faster than Road Runner
VS
They're building skills that will help them
📌 Here’s a solution:
Screen time that counts.
- Structured enough to build real skills
- Engaging enough that your child will actually do it
- Independent enough that you’re not sitting there talking them through every click
Kids Get Creative with Canva is exactly that.
AboutKids Get Creative With Canva
Kids are fast with tech, but they're mostly guessing.
We can support them by providing opportunities to learn actual skills through content they enjoy.
The lessons are:
- Child-friendly content
- Explained clearly, step-by-step
- Not just showing what to click, but also organically explaining the logic and building awareness
- Mostly under 10 minutes long! Perfect for busy families
- Designed to educate but not feel like school work
What this means for you:
- A screen-time option you feel good about saying 'yes' to
- Your child can work independently (no "How do I do this...?" every 3 minutes)
- They're building skills that transfer to literally every other digital tool
- Uses Canva's free version (no extra costs)

I created Kids Get Creative with Canva for the way kids actually learn. They’re tech-savvy and curious – they just need the chance to use that energy in the right direction.

Here's What to Say When Your Child Says
'I Already Know Canva'
A quick heads-up. If you ask a 10 – 12 year old whether they want a Canva course, there’s a good chance the answer will be, “I already use Canva.”
This generation has grown up with digital tools. They’re fast learners, confident explorers, and very good at finding their way around tech. Sometimes that confidence makes it feel like there’s nothing new to learn.
But even Canva-confident kids get a lot out of this. This is the difference between “I can make something that looks okay” and “I actually understand how this works.”
They might still roll their eyes. Some things are non-negotiable. 🙂
📌 Here's what to say:
"I know you're already good at Canva, this is going to show you shortcuts and tricks they don't teach at school. Canva will be faster and way easier once you know them! "
Meet Sarah Lorien
Design mentor, course creator, and Canva confidence coach
Hey! I’m Sarah. I’ve spent 20+ years working across design, photography, and education — and over a decade teaching digital tools like Canva and Adobe to kids, adults, and creative professionals.
The importance of teaching young kids real tech skills
I created Kids Get Creative with Canva because I kept seeing the same thing:
Kids love tech and pick it up fast — but they’re diving in without structure, and this is a missed opportunity!
Your child needs the chance to build real knowledge and skills. With this understanding and confidence, they can resolve questions and see new ways to use tech.
Without this foundation, kids are very quick to guess their way to a 'good enough' result, and then promptly get distracted by the next shiny digital object.
This little course can make a difference.
I sneak the 'teaching' in, it doesn't feel heavy or boring.
We're giving your kids a strong, practical base – so when technology changes (it always does), and as they move on to new and more complex platforms and tasks, they’ll have a head start.
Why Canva?
Because it’s free, easy to access, and everywhere — in schools, universities, and workplaces.
Once your child has solid foundational skills in Canva, it becomes a powerful tool not just for design, but also for other tech platforms.
For Homeschool Families
📌 Kids Get Creative with Canva fits perfectly into your homeschooling curriculum.
- Project-based and self-paced
- Easy to integrate into creative or tech learning plans
- Ideal for independent learners who like hands-on, real-world skills
You can treat it as a digital literacy elective, a creative technology module, or a weekly enrichment activity.
It’s structured enough to count as curriculum, but flexible enough to fit any family’s schedule.
Homeschooling already encourages independence. This course channels that independence into lasting digital capability.
Testimonial from a 'creative Aunty'
I got Kids Get Creative With Canva as a shared, creative activity to do with my 11-year-old nephew. He did well and we worked through a bunch of the lessons. But I wondered if he'd rather be playing Roblox.
Then a few months later he casually said, "Oh yeah, we've been using Canva heaps at school this term. I showed the whole class how to do layers and groups and flip things and change colors."
Wow! I was one proud aunty. And a bit shocked too - I didn't realise he'd learned so much! 😊

Sample lesson:
Pineapples
This is from 'Jump In - Level 1' Module – where we start!
Inside the course, we go from easy - but essential! - projects and work up to more complex ones.
In this lesson we look at how to rotate elements on a page.
This follows an earlier lesson about moving, flipping, duplicating and resizing elements, which we also use in this project.
Inside the course, students download the template you see in this video to work along.
Child Safety Online
When we sign up for online platforms or apps, we all agree to their terms and conditions (you know, the ones we usually tick without reading that long, long document…).
But when kids under 13 use these platforms, those agreements apply to them too; under our supervision as parents or guardians.
As the course creator, I’m required to remind you of this.
What this means here
📌 Both Canva and Kajabi (the platform this course is on) follow government regulations for child safety and privacy protection.
📌 Their Terms & Conditions require that parents/guardians:
- Sign up for accounts using your own email and details
- Be responsible for supervising your child’s participation
🔹 Thanks for helping keep this a safe space for all kids!
My child isn't artistic or creative – will this still work?
Yes. Whether your kid is into sport, science, or something else entirely — they’ll still need to make presentations, posters, and projects.
Canva is used everywhere in schools now, from primary all the way through to higher education.
This isn’t about turning everyone into designers. It’s about building real tech skills.
Canva's also great for kids who think “I can’t draw” because they’re not starting from scratch — they’re learning how to use pre-made elements, arrange things, edit, and problem-solve.
How Do We Access the Course?
You can watch the course on one screen/device and use Canva on another. For desktop or laptop computers, both can be open on the same device. Whatever works best for your setup!
Where to Watch the Course
📌 Kids Get Creative with Canva is hosted on Kajabi, an online learning platform. You can access it on:
- A desktop or laptop
- An iPad or tablet
- A phone
Where to Use Canva
- Best on a desktop, laptop, or tablet
- Available on a phone app (but the layout is different, so I don’t recommend it for learning)
Inside the course, you’ll find step-by-step instructions for signing up and accessing both Kajabi and Canva.
📌 You’ll need an internet connection for both the course and Canva.
For Teachers
Primary school teachers do incredible work, but they can’t be expected to keep up with every digital platform that enters the classroom.
I’ve taught design software for over a decade. That’s why I don’t expect teachers to take this on alone — it’s a specialist skill.
If you’d like to explore bringing Kids Get Creative with Canva into your classroom, please reach out to discuss licensing or group access.
Even if that’s not possible in your school right now, this course will help you understand how kids can learn Canva properly — and give you language and structure to guide them better.
